Good ideas and thoughtful touches September 10, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I agree with the other reviewers that this is a great guide for young men who are trying to learn to dress nicely, perhaps for the first time in their lives. I keep it on my dresser and find myself referring to it frequently.
My favorite feature of the book is that for each basic piece (white dress shirt, gray trousers, navy blazer, etc.), it shows several ideas for what else to wear, to dress it up or down. Crucially, these show the clothes laid out as if a person was wearing them, but without the person. This eliminates the mental anguish of having to look at a guy who's much better looking than you and decide if you like how he looks. That is the worst part of reading GQ.
Like this book! September 4, 2008 Details is a great style manual that is current and modern without being trendy. I would recommend this book to anyone.
urban guide to essentials April 21, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I love how this book simplifies, yet shows the most essentials about all parts of our wordrobe: shirts, pants, blazers, sweaters, accessories, etc. Photos compliment their very short suggestions. I like that there are many photos, not too much text. It's a great book for any guy who wants to look half-decent in the city.
What was lacking was that it had very little informaiton on best practises on cleaning, taking care of, washing, etc. I wish it would include more photos of more samples : what goes well with that.
Other than that, this is a great purchase.

This guide must be for people who live in a cave. Not much to learn about mens fashion.
pretty good April 14, 2008 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
I'm not a big Details Magazine fan, mainly because I've always been preoccupied with GQ and the occasional Esquire. When I bought this product I didn't really know what to expect, and pretty much wondered if it would suit my style. Rather than push into a certain style, the book stays on a more broad spectrum, telling you what to consider and what to definitely avoid. This book was very informative and had lots of pictures and ideas. Ranging anywhere from how to pick out your clothes to how to maintain and take care of them, this book opened many new doors for me. This is a must if you're trying to turn yourself into a new man, and are tired of looking like a schlub. I like it and I'm sure you will too.
