A Mango is a sweet, delicious fruit. It can be difficult to peel and slice, however. Traditionally cooks instruct people that the following steps should be followed to open a Mango - Cut off the stem of the mango; Hold the fruit upright, cupping it in the palm of your hand; With the other hand, use a potato peeler or a paring knife to cut away the peel, following the curves of the fruit; Lay the fruit on its flat end and slice lengthwise, working around the flat seed in the middle. Cut the fruit into thin slices as desired.; Stand the mango upright or otherwise move around to carve away the remaining flesh surrounding the seed. OR you can use the Oxo Good Grips Mango Splitter.

There's nothing as luscious as a ripe mango. Growing in popularity, mangoes are now available in many stores year-round and can be eaten fresh, cubed into salads, or sliced and baked on top of chicken breasts. Helping prepare the fruit for eating is this ingenious mango splitter from OXO. The splitter is a circular white plastic device with sharp stainless-steel blades in the center and OXO's signature black comfort handles on two sides. Holding both handles, the user pushes the blades down through the mango from the top, separating the seed from two halves of mango. When I first saw this, I hesitated because I thought it was expensive for a simple slicer - but it was worth it! To be able to cut a mango so that it's not a mess allows you to get the most out of the fruit, as well as saving you cleanup. I've had it for weeks and am a mango lover, so it got plenty of use. For those who had a problem, the secret is to use a ripe, not overripe mango. Like any other fruit, mangos shouldn't be mushy but reasonably firm. The other secret is to read and follow the directions on the package as to where to place the slicer on the mango. It doesn't slice directly down, but on a curve. Let the slicer guide you. So far, every mango I used was sliced perfectly.

Maybe its just me but I've never been able to split a mango using this tool, no matter the size of the mango. I would not recommend buying this as I believe it would be a waste of money.

The metal part does not flex so this is only good for mango pits that can fit. this simply will not work for most mangos

That's what I call fast seeding. It looks a bit strange, but it really does cut the flesh around the seed of the mango. There is a little bit of waste, but far less than when I had been doing it manually with a knife. And who likes to eat it straight off the seed - it's so messy and slippery!! I have launched a couple this way. For larger mangoes with bigger seeds, it did end up cutting through part of the seed, but it's the same with any type of slicer. Apple corer/slicers have a limit to the size of the apple you can use.
I can know eat my mangoes in bliss and not worry about gnawing at the seed and getting all those fibers stuck in my teeth - even if I did have fun leaving them in and driving people nuts when I spoke to them.
