Product Description If you are trying to manage counter clutter, consider eliminating some appliances. For instance, your electric can opener. If you have a KitchenAid stand mixer, this simple attachment turns it into a can opener! Simply attach it to the mixer accessory hub.
Amazon.com Review Using your stand mixer to open tin cans seems beneath the machine's power, but then again, the stand mixer is all about versatility. The can opener attachment is a single, hefty piece of steel; attach it to the mixer's motor hub and position the can under the cutting blade. Pull the handle up and over and the can locks in place. Turn the power to speed 2 and watch it go. The stand mixer's weight balances heavy cans and its height accommodates tall ones. And while it's completely practical, its greater appeal is that it's fun to use. You might find yourself opening cans just so you can watch them twirl. --Betsy Danheim

Not worth buying September 29, 2008 I have now been thru two of these in three years. It is a waste of money as it has no durability. Two of these openers have failed after less than two years of use each, opening an average of 3 cans per week. When it works it is great, but after a while the mechanism deteriorates and becomes useless. KitchenAid was nice enough to replace the first one which had just gone out of warranty and now less than two years later the replacement has failed. After the first one failed I purchased the OXO Steel Can Opener (http://www.amazon.com/Oxo-58081-SteeL-Can-Opener/dp/B00004OCMM/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=home-garden&qid=1222651468&sr=8-1)to use while my wife used the KitchenAid.
My OXO is going strong while the KitchenAid failed. If my OXO should ever fail, no problem, lifetime warranty; a phone call will get you a replacement.
Save your money and do not buy this opener.
Love it! August 22, 2008 I was tired of replacing cheaply made can openers every few months. I hate having a big electric opener on the counter--they are ugly and take up too much space. This easy attachment to my beautiful mixer works like a charm every time. It tucks away in a drawer when I'm not using it. It shipped really fast.
Piece of crap! July 22, 2008 I bought this thinking it would be the best thing ever, but what I have is an opener that I do not use. It does not grip well, so that it skips around the can, missing portions of the rim to open. Therefore, you will need to go around 3-4 times to get it off, if it will even open it. I now just use the hand opener that my grandmother left to me....boy they could build good stuff 30 years ago!
Look mom ~ no hands! June 29, 2008 Ok, I just recently received and used this new widget, so it may be too early to tell but my initial quality report is quite promising. The opener is well made and locks in place like other attachment on my Kitchen-Aid Pro 600 stand mixer. The recommended speed for cans is number two and it turns, opens and peels off without any barbs. Those who reported that barbs are present is likely a random quality or tolerance issue. I know from experience from my hand-held opener, that over time the cutting disc wears out and thus' barbs occur on the can. If it last for 18-months or more I'll be happy. Anyway, at roughly 28 bucks, it's a pretty cool device. Regards, Digital Dude
Best can opener one could buy! June 19, 2008 Dont waste any $$ on a electric can opener. This thing will open a #10 can in seconds! Should have got one of these a long time ago! Not one problem. You do need to watch your speed cause you could flip a can open faster than you could grab it.
