 Great design, poor quality November 16, 2008

We have gone through three of these kettles in about four years. I like the design and the fact that it brings water to the boil much more quickly than any other kettle.
On the first one, the thermostat failed after a few months. Krups couldn't repair it and gave us a new kettle. On the replacement kettle, the switch (that's operated either manually or by the thermostat) failed after less than a year. Krups again gave us a new one. This third one had a broken lid after a few months. I bought a new lid earlier this year, which was available only in black, although the original one was white. It cost $20 including postage. Now this third kettle again has a broken thermostat and will not shut off automatically.
Overall, a very nicely designed product but very, very, very cheaply made.
 On / Off Switch Broke after 6 Months November 12, 2008
I spent a good deal of money on this kettle, only to have the on / off toggle switch fail after six months. It's not easily accessible on the handle - so I am skeptical about it being repaired. I have not contacted Krups yet, but I feel like I have a $50 pencil can.
 Frustrating Design October 3, 2008
Pros:
Heats very quickly
Cordless with convenient base station
Can be filled without removing the top
Cons:
Handle shape inconvenient to hold - pick up.
Too easy to touch hot areas by mistake when grasping handle
Somewhat complex top (cover) design that can be difficult to remove and
replace
I just received this pot and would probably not have chosen it as I think there is probably another one of equal or lower price that I now would have preferred. I bought in on line and don't have the energy to return it and try again. It heats water well, and I think I will like it well enough, but I definitely have mixed feelings. I plan to try to add some sort of insulation near the handle to reduce the frustration of touching hot areas when picking it up.

I purchased this kettle because it was stainless steel not plastic and, because of Krup's reputation for quality I was willing to spend more ---$70 vs $30. After only two and a half months of use it died. It simply would not function. I had to send it to a Krup's service center for repair. After one month it was replaced with a new unit [they were unable to repair the kettle] however I lost a month of my warranty time and it cost me $10 to ship it to the repair center. I complained to customer service about my warranty rights to no avail.
What ever happened to quality and reliability? I would certainly expect this item to last more than two and a half months! As far as I'm concerned this is just one more piece of Chinese junk! I would have been better off buying the inexpensive kettle.
Also, the lid on this kettle is extremely difficult to attach and remove. Although most of the kettle is made of stainless steel there are still some plastic components----why?
Very fast September 5, 2008
We've used this kettle for daily coffee brewing for a couple years, we love it: turn it on, grind the beans, prepare the filter, and the water is ready. It is fast, safe and has lasted. The kettle is separate from the heating element so you can take the kettle anywhere, just like you would a stove top kettle.
On the down side, the kettle lid has a tongue that covers the pouring spout, and it does not retract properly. It tends to pop back out when the lid is removed, making it difficult to replace the lid. So I fill the kettle through the spout. This worked well once I removed the filter screen in the spout (I'm not sure what it was for, anyhow).
Also, the brushed stainless finish is no longer beautiful---it lives by the stove and has grease spots even after the grease has been wiped away. But it has lived a hard life and still looks better than the yellowed-with-age white plastic version I had many years ago, and it has not accumulated ugly hard water stains.
Some folks have recommended the Breville kettle over this one. If you want your water boiled as fast as possible, however, the Krups is the better bet as it has 1750 watts of power while the Breville has only 1500 watts.
