Over heated and melted October 19, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Used it for over a year. Worked well until it over heated and melted
Pros: We loved the design and the capacity. Nice silver/black style made it stylish. It held it's temperature pretty well compared to other models. We also loved the fact everything was removable which made it easier to clean. Easy break away plug for safety.
Cons: The lid and sides are thin and get very hot, too hot to touch. The timer is poorly designed, with normal cooking, the button starts to stick and becomes very difficult to set/reset. Once the plastic became oily it was really hard to get it looking clean. Oil drain catch was useless. There was never any oil in the drain catch, instead we would always find oil under the deepfryer. After regular use, the thermostat melted down and started an electrical burn. After tearing it apart the heating elements are basically right against the thermostat and was a fire in the making.
Recommendations: Great fryer for occasional use. If used heavily, it may not be the best option.
Great Deep Fryer October 4, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've used this deep fryer on a dozen or so occasions and it has always worked flawlessly. What I like about it is that it is so easy to use. The snap in the handle is nice. This allows one to set the fry basket above the hot oil.
I would recommend deep frying a small basket then tasting the food item. Here's why, I make wings and the instruction booklet that is included with the deep fryer recommends cooking them 15 to 20 minutes. But my experience is that after thawing for a short period, only 12 minutes of deep frying is necessary.
I think that you'll really enjoy this deep fryer as it is very dependable and the time from start to finish is quick. Rival 4 Liter Cool Zone Black & Stainless Steel Deep Fryer CZF725
Rival Deep Fryer CZF725 October 1, 2008 0 out of 2 found this review helpful
The only thing worse than having a broken cooker is depending on an unreliable cooker. We've attempted to use our Rival deep fryer on four occasions. Two diners went OK but the unit puked out mid-way through the cooking on the second effort, food had to be thrown out. The third dinner went OK and tonight, our fourth attempt, it never warmed, though we strictly followed all instructions and the red operations light was lit. Bottom line; this unit is NOT reliable and we would recommend passing on Rival. We will throw this one away in the trash where it belongs.
