 Three years later, I'm still grilling & happy August 2, 2008
With the advice of Consumer Reports (CR) I purchased this Hamilton Beach model instead of George Foreman's grills. CR listed this as a best buy and noted that it offered two grilling sizes in one unit, a 60-square-inch surface that works best for hamburgers and chicken breasts and a full 120-square-inch double grill when you open it up. I use the double grill for vegetables (asparagus, green onions, squash).
The plates are removable and easy to clean. I usually just wash them in the sink and wipe them down, skipping the dishwasher, because the nonstick surface works well.
If you are cooking at home to stay healthy and to save money, this grill from Hamilton Beach is a great addition to your kitchen.

I have used this almost every day since i got it.
It is excellant. I cook salmon, cskinless, boneless chicken breast and veggies.
Very delicious.
It is Fast, cooks good, easy to clean.
I am very pleased with the product.

I read all these dazzling reviews, just goes to show you that opinions are not worth much. This is the model with removable griddle plates. The griddle is sloped to the right hand side in order to have the juices and fat go to the collection tray. Thin items such as hamburger patties, hash brown patties and other thin meats do not make any contact with the upper griddle on the right-hand side.
The phenolic plastic case is cracked after 6 uses on the top. Unit heats very slowly so ot takes approximately 8 minutes to get it ready for grilling.
Save that George Foreman grill- at least it heats quickly and is designed to make contact across the surface so you can cook thin items. I was looking for a larger cooking surface and the ability to remove the grill plates for cleaning and it does these things. But the loss of 1/2 of the surface area is not so wonderful. This grill is exactly what I wanted. I bought it after seeing it as the top pick by ConsumerReports.org.
So far I have used it to grill Salmon and Eggplant. The salmon I cook for five minutes with lemon and pepper slices over and under it for five minutes. It turns out great. The eggplant I cook for seven minutes after grinding salt and pepper over olive oil in a shallow dish and dip 3/8 inch slices of eggplant into it rapidly as to not absorb too much of the oil. Some times I add ground garlic. This also turns out great even though this is a very simple version of cooking eggplant.
The removable grills make cleaning a breeze!
You will like this grill! I know that hamburgers would also be great, however I tend to be vegetabletarian . ;o)

I used Consumer Reports to choose this grill over the more popular George Forman and couldnt' be happier. Easy to clean. Big enough two grill for two. Compact.
