Warning: Design Defect: 2 have failed the same way November 29, 2008 I had purchased the same model from another retailer. Days after the end of the one-year warranty, the machine signaled an empty reservoir when not in the brewing mode; turned off, then on, it would not brew at all. When unplugged and replugged, it would brew and then indicate that it was in the warming mode though no heat was detectable and the coffee was cold soon after brewing.
I purchased a replacement unit from Amazon. One month and some few days later, the same phenomenon played out as though following a script. I called Krups who advised that my only recourse was to send the unit to a service location (at my expense) for repair. Since my experience with two units had clearly demonstrated a design flaw, I instead requested credit toward the purchase of some other Krups product. This was denied.
Needless to say, I have since replaced the unit with that from another manufacturer (Cuisinart DCC-1200 12-Cup Brew Central Coffeemaker, Black and Stainless Steel). I strongly recommend avoiding this unit.
Great Coffeemaker November 18, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is my second Krups coffeemaker. It makes great tasting coffee and my first one lasted three years. My only complaint is the lid is attached to the carafe making it a little harder to clean. I wish it came off so I could put it in the top of the dishwasher.
very disappointed October 31, 2008 I have experienced each and every annoyance written about by so many other posters: - water dribbles all over when filling or pouring coffee - opening lid slightly to prevent releases scalding steam over fingers - continuous burning plastic smell, even after 2 months - brew tank opening has a small opening partially obstructed by its lid, so it's very hard to fill without spilling water all over counter and machine. it's going back to the store. i'm done with Krups.
Lousy coffee October 27, 2008 I've had this coffee maker for 10 months and keep waiting for the coffee to taste better...today I gave up! It brews quickly and is easy to use, but the flavor is lousy! I've tried freshly ground beans, and numerous other types of coffee and still the coffee tastes awful. Today I will buy a new coffeemaker and donate this one. Don't bother buying this!
Smells like burning plastic October 26, 2008 I've always had good luck with Krups products, but not so much this time. After two days of owning this coffee maker the handle on the carafe fell apart. The handle is apparently made of two molded pieces of plastic, and they have come apart. I had to glue them back together. I could live with that if it wasn't for the strong burning plastic odor this machine produces while brewing. It also imparts a "plastic" taste to the coffee. I thought this was my imagination until I did a little research and found several other reviewers complaining of the same problem.
Oh, well. I should have read the reviews first. I've recently ordered a Cuisinart coffee maker to replace this one. I'm just going to throw the Krups away. The plastic smell and taste can't be healthy.
