Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
From whole beans to brewed coffee without the guesswork or the mess, this 10-cup programmable coffeemaker features a completely automatic, integrated mill-and-brew system. Simply add water and whole-bean coffee, select from seven grind selections (or turn the grinder off to brew already ground coffee), then enjoy the freshest, most flavorful coffee imaginable. The unit's brew-pause function allows for pouring a cup mid-brew, and its clock display automatically springs forward, falls back, and resets after a power failure. Other highlights include a water reservoir with a large viewing window, high-quality stainless-steel grinding blades, a permanent stainless-steel filter basket, a warming plate with automatic shutoff, and hidden cord storage. 10-cup programmable coffeemaker grinds and brews automatically for ease of use 7 grind selections; adjustable strength; brew-pause; warming plate with auto shutoff

4 out of 5 stars Very nice coffee maker   November 30, 2008
I like many things about this coffee maker. One, no need to ever buy filters again - just wash and reuse. Two, There are not separate compartments to clean for grinding and brewing (as is common with other machines). Three it makes superb coffee - you are able to choose how fine you want you beans ground, which allows for mild, med or strong coffee. I also like the weather display, it is nice when you are curious in the morning and it flashes if severe weather is on it's way. I did have a slight problem with the buttons sticking once, like in other reviews, but after washing the front and playing with the buttons a bit, it worked fine. My only suggestion for improvement is to offer a stainless carafe to keep the coffee warmer longer, but thats about it.

4 out of 5 stars Great Coffee!   November 25, 2008
I purchased the Melitta Mill & Brew on sale a couple of months ago and after a little rough start I'm loving it now.

Rough start because I didn't know how to put the unit together (very fiddely until I noticed a little arrow on the grinder basket that gives you the exact location on how to snap it in...now it's really easy and fast to clean the coffee machine!)

The coffee is very good and you can adjust the strength of it, it took me a few tries until I found MY perfect cup of Joe...

I only gave it 4 stars due to the fact that the warming plate stays only on for one hour after brewing and you can't turn it back on w/o making more coffee...

The weather station is a neat feature, though I'm losing the signal quite often. Once you lose the signal, it will find it again eventually, but your timer was lost, so no fresh coffee in the morning. Since you already prepared the coffee the night before, you only have to push one button and within 2 minutes you have your frewh brew, so that's not too bad.

You can also turn off the grinder and use coffee ground instead of beans, nice when there's no beans at hand.

I didn't have any problems with sliding panels and stuck buttons and I also don't think that it is cheaply made.

Overall I'm very happy with the purchase, even more now that I only paid $39.95 (however, to be honest I would have NOT spent $100+ on ANY coffee maker).

3 out of 5 stars Sometimes good is good enough   November 2, 2008
I have owned several Melitta Mill and Brew coffee makers since its introduction and think it is the best coffee maker around. Most recently this Smart Mill and Brew is the only one available and I have to tell you, the older version was better. It took up less space on the counter, for one thing. The weather part of this machine worked for 48 hours only before it "died". I have not had any of the other issues mentioned about the stainless steel plate slipping, and of course, it makes excellent coffee. But please, bring back my old Mill and Brew - it doesn't have to be Smart!

2 out of 5 stars Warning - Terrible Service   October 15, 2008

I own the previous model of this same coffee maker. I enjoyed the coffee it made except for the fact that the filter allows some small grounds to make it to the pot.

After a few months we dropped the carafe and broke it. Guess what? Melitta didn't have any more replacements. It's been almost a year and I haven't received a replacement carafe still (not because I haven't been trying).

I had to buy a more reputable brand coffee maker to replace this one. Think twice before buying this brand or else buy some spare parts immediately!

4 out of 5 stars signal sucks   October 12, 2008
Most of the time it can't pick up a signal. If there is no signal you can't program it to make coffee in the morning before getting out of bed. Everything else works fine. I like that you can choose the grind level you want.
