Yup, it's official Krup is Krap December 1, 2008 Bought this to great excitement at C&B today. Then read the online reviews to some dismay. Sure enough I spent 30 minutes reading the instruction manual so I wouldn't screw it up. Then proceeded with the step by step cleaning instructions. I could not get this machine even to suck up any water at all. It just sat there grinding away nothing but the smell of overheating electrical appliance. I'm taking it back tomorrow and getting the Gaggia. Krup is krap.
Does the job well November 28, 2008 Works well if you follow the instructions. Had it up and running in 10 minutes after running 2 tanks thru to clean it. The latte I produced on my first try was as good as any Starbucks.
Cheap in the short run, but doesn't last. October 24, 2008 This machine lacks long term value. We're on our third one of these from a local big box retailer. The first two didn't last three months each. Low priced compared to most machines but that price doesn't help now that we're looking to replace it again after only another six months. At this point, the pump doesn't have enough force to push through the espresso when it is ground and packed properly. The frother is adequate once you get the hang of it. The wand never really had enough oomph to froth 20oz of milk in a pitcher. So if you like one shot in a 12oz drink, your pushing the limits of the machine if you make two drinks in the morning. As an alternative we tried the Bialetti Mukka which was also limited by its capacity. The price jump to the next level is significant and so we'll shop carefully before committing for the long term. But we certainly wouldn't go back to this machine.
Very Disappointed September 7, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
Bought the machine based on Krups reputation. The actual machine does not look as good as the pictures (I know, what does?). Stainless steel parts are thin and cheap looking. Plastic is average looking/ average thickness for Chinese made products (meaning it is a bit on the thin side). The machine is fairly easy to operate, which is good because the instructins are not that good. The coffee tastes good, not great, good. Not appreciably better than my old Mr Coffee Espresso Machine and nowhere like Starbucks. Frothed milk is a nightmare; more on this later. My big complaints are the unit's seal and the frothing device. The seal between the water resivoir/heater and the espresso holder was and is loose. I've tried to adjust the gasket, tighten and loosen the screw holding the gasket in place, cleaned the knife-edge, etc., all to little or no avail. Having hot espresso all over the place takes a bit away from the experience. The second problem is the frothing spout. It is a two piece design: a fixed steel line coming from the heating element and an attachable/ detachable nozzle. Easy to clean. Problem is, the nozzle has a tendency to come off when you are frothing/heating milk. This makes a real mess and is a bit hot as well. This happens about 4 of every 5 times I use the machine. Calls to Krups customer service have not resolved the problems. This is by and far the least satisfying small appliance I have bought. It's not super expensive, but for about $150 you should get a well designed and reliable machine. This is not it.
Great machine -- yummy espresso! August 8, 2008 I asked for an espresso machine as a gift and my husband bought me the Krups XP4030. It's fast and easy to use and I love the water tank -- it's removeable and has a large capacity so you can steam away! Great machine for the money.
