Good to Bad October 23, 2008 DeLonghi Esclusivo DCM485 10-Cup Thermal Carafe and Coffeemaker, Brushed Stainless Steel We purchased our first DeLonghi DCM485 a couple years ago. Loved it. When it failed we tried to get it repaired. We found the same as others no parts for versions made in the Peoples Republic of China. We decided to buy a replacement. After looking in all the right stores we found that no one was carrying this version (Strike 1). Went to the internet and read the mixed reviews and bought it anyway (Strike 2). Received the coffe pot and immediately cleaned and set it up. First pot we had coffee and grounds all over the counter the same as the reviews (strike 3). I took changed out parts with the old coffee maker in an effort to figure out what had changed with no luck. We have contiued to try different things and have settled into cleaning up the mess every other pot of coffee. This morning we gave up and decided to buy a different brand.
Everybody says it leaks... July 27, 2008 So, it was a Gold Box special and refurbished, so I figured that they would have fixed the leak issue. It still leaks. I am very disappointed, but that's what I get for ignoring the reviews.
TRUST ME: OVERFLOWS AND DEFECTIVE DESIGN! July 13, 2008 Bought and kept for looks, but after a year of experimenting with modifications to prevent the constant overflows, I JUST THREW THE P.O.S. OUT THE KITCHEN WINDOW! Good riddance. All the reviews are correct; it WILL overflow. It ruined a $250 panel on our white cabinets below it. Search this product on the web and you will see that it has a design flaw; that is why a certain well-known coffee shop stopped selling it in their stores! But not sure why Amazon continues to sell it. If the carafe is not pushed all the way back (and sometimes when it even is), the coffee won't flow to the carafe and instead goes everywhere with the grinds. I modified the button that the carafe presses by making it stick out farther, but still, once a month I forget to push the carafe all the way in and BINGO, mess all over again. So glad I threw this thing out this morning; going to get a different brand today and put this year of coffee hell behind me. TRUST ME. DeLonghi knows it designed this flaw, but for some reason Amazon, unlike other retailers, is still carrying this defective product. Amazon should do better by us. I am reporting the product to the CPSC in hopes they get a recall out and pull it off the market. Read up on all the online reviews (not just Amazon's), and you too can avoid a year of wasted money and time. No way to start your day.
Delonghi Coffee Maker June 22, 2008 THis makes better coffee than most coffee makers but is somewhat messy, especially if the grounds flow over which has happened many times to me. The coffee also spills when poured from the carafe if you are not very careful.
Mixed review May 31, 2008 My DeLonghi DCM 485 worked well for a year and a half, although the comments on the lid are pretty much spot on. The other day, the lid protrusion where you turn the lid broke, rendering the lid totally inoperable, so same with the coffee maker. It made pretty decent coffee and I like the carafe feature. We will see if DeLonghi or Starbucks makes good on this.
