Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Apart from looking really cool, bamboo cutting boards are the hottest thing to happen in kitchenware. Perfectly natural, bamboo is a new miraculous material for western civilization but among the oldest in the world. Structurally harder than Maple, Bamboo is a member of the grass family and doesn't need the care that most wood boards require. Bamboo boards are lightweight and can double as serving trays. The hard surface means fewer nicks and slices that harbor bacteria. Cooking can be fun and easy. A bamboo board is a kitchen tool that's an attractive, useful, complement to any kitchen.

1 out of 5 stars It sheds!   December 3, 2008
Perhaps it's a lonely instance, but my board -- which was well cared for -- would shed little strands of bamboo which inevitably ended up in the food. I'd suggest the end grain bamboo boards as a better investment: Totally Bamboo Zambia Parquet End Grain Cutting Board

PS: That warning against the dishwasher is no lie. A friend dropped hers in and it came out horribly warped with separating ends.

4 out of 5 stars Love Bamboo   November 26, 2008

I love bamboo products but I bought this cutting board and when I was washing it for the first time I had so many tiny wood splinters in my hands and sponge that I had to throw the sponge out. Anybody else had this problem? I'm worried about cutting directly on it, I used wax paper. Kinda defeats the point. I wonder if it's going to keep coming off. I had assumed there would be some initial splinters, as I said, I own many bamboo products, but this was a considerable amount. It's such a pretty board, I hope it's done.

3 out of 5 stars cute but small   September 29, 2008
this was pretty small. it works well for cuttin' limes at a tequila party but that's about it. pretty though. and good quality.

5 out of 5 stars Durable, attractive, useful board for the smaller jobs   September 16, 2008

I love this cutting board. It's very durable, has a nice attractive finish, and is showing hardly any wear after a year of use. It's perfect for those small jobs like cutting a piece of fruit or slicing cheese. If you're tired dragging out a huge board for little jobs like like chopping garlic, or slicing an apple or a lemon, this little board comes in really handy.

For those who are complaining about the size, the dimensions are correctly stated in the description - 10 x 7.2 x .8 inches, which if you think about it is just slightly smaller than a piece of letter sized paper. I do take care to hand wash it, as water+heat+wood (as in a dishwasher) seems like a recipe for wood warping disaster. That said, the board is very attractive, has a nice solid feel to it, and looks just like the pic with the variation of grain. This is my first bamboo board; I was skeptical how one would be, but now after using this for year I'm certainly sold on bamboo as a cutting board. Nothing's come off of it visibly so far, but it's nice to know that if little chunks of the board accidentally do make it to the food, it's natural fiber, and not plastic that we'll be eating.

If you're on the fence about using bamboo in the kitchen for the first time, I'd suggest getting this to test out since it's pretty inexpensive. After doing the same, I'm all for bamboo kitchen use in general - several bamboo spoons that I got around the same time for cooking are also working great (they're in heavy rotation), and as for the board, I'm definitely getting another.

4 out of 5 stars Great board, wish it was bigger   May 22, 2008

I ordered this product online and didn't realize how small it was. I have no complaints other than I wish I had ordered the bigger one. It's very easy to clean and looks great in my kitchen.
