Amazon.com Review Americans are just beginning to catch on to what Europeans have known for ages: Electric kettles boil water faster than stove-top kettles. This compact tea kettle holds a quart of water and boils it even faster than a microwave, with the added advantage of a built-in whistle to let you know when the water is ready. The more water in the kettle, the louder the whistle. A stainless-steel lid on the no-drip spout flips up for easy filling and pouring, and keeps steam away from hands. Two additional safety features: a maximum fill line on the spout prevents boil-overs, and a thermostat automatically turns off the heating element in case the kettle boils dry or gets plugged in while empty. The exterior of the kettle is stay-cool plastic, and the interior base is anodized to resist mineral build-up. Compact and lightweight with a 2-foot cord, the kettle measures 7 by 6-1/2 inches and comes with a one-year warranty against defects. --Ann Bieri

Simple, inexpensive, works great November 10, 2008 We've had our Presto Model 0270303 electric tea pot for years. No problems. It really does heat a quart of water faster than a micorwave. In fact, it heats faster than on the stove. The short cord is a satety feature, and not a complaint for me. The lack of a shut off switch is a positive to me as switches are usually the first part to fail on an electrical appliance (note, as the cord IS the shut off switch, it will spark at the recepaicle when unplugged). It does have a metal bottom, but we set our kettle on a trivet, and have had no rust problems. My only complaint is that the whistle could be louder, but that is minor in comparison to my first of this type of tea kettle which had no whistle at all (or auto shut off that I knew of).
I did leave it plugged in after pouring out the water, and thus it boiled dry once. When it did that, it made popping noises, and that alerted me to my error. I unplugged it immediately, let it cool down, and heated another pot of water as a test. It worked as before. I can't be sure the auto shut off worked, and I wonder what would have happened if I had left it plugged in and walked away. Don't know.
I wouldn't trade our kettle for one with a switch, but I would be tempted if I could get one with a temperature control.
My tea kettle October 19, 2008 I love this item. It is very convenient and boils water in the blink of an eye. I am used to drink tea during my work day, so it is so fast that I can prepare my beverage every time I want it. It is beautiful, unexpensive, and I think I bought a nice device. The shippment was unexpectedly fast, the conditions were excellent. Everything was beyond expectations.
more or less junk October 2, 2008 I feel like a company that doesn't put an on/off switch on an electric appliance with heating elements might have some issues. It's also not the most ergonomic configuration-- it's very easy to spill water when it's full, and the only place you can fill it is through the spout... hm. I guess it makes tea, though. Probably not worth what I paid for it.
Great Item September 29, 2008 This is the second one I have had. The first one was getting kind of dingy looking (taking it to work break room), still works great. I bought 2 since my daughter (who also loves it) was getting married and moving out and she needed one. They are so handy for heating water for recipes, tea, hot cocoa, soups, etc. WE LOVE IT!
Presto Kettle September 2, 2008 I ordered this to replace a whistling West Bend electric kettle. (you can't find the ones that whistle in the U.) It does it's job but the capacity is less than the West Bend, it's slower to heat and the whistle is weak. For the price I would go with the West Bend.
