Product Description Apart from looking really cool, bamboo cutting boards are the hottest thing to happen in kitchenware. Perfectly natural, bamboo is a new miraculous material for western civilization but among the oldest natural resources in the world. Structurally harder than Maple, Bamboo is a member of the grass family and doesn't need the care that most wood boards require. Bamboo boards are lightweight and can double as serving trays. The hard surface means fewer nicks and slices that harbor bacteria. Cooking can be fun and easy. A bamboo board is a kitchen tool that's an attractive, useful, complement to any kitchen. Shouldn't it be in yours?

Beautiful and Functional! November 24, 2003 18 out of 19 found this review helpful
I never really thought that I would ever be so enthusiastic about a cutting board of all things, but these cutting boards are really wonderful. The cutting board that I have from Totally Bamboo is the "Kauai" model, and it has served me quite well. The bamboo is incredibly smooth to the touch, and has shown very little wear for the amount that I have used it. I like mine so much that I have purchased the "Lanai" model for my boyfriend's mother for Christmas. When I showed my own mother the one that I had gotten, she decided to get one to send to my relatives for the holidays as well. Some interesting additional information from the company's website:"Bamboo is 16% harder than maple wood, 1/3 lighter in weight than oak, yet in some instances as strong as steel. Bamboo holds the promise of a sustainable, cost effective, and ecologically responsible alternative to the widespread clear-cutting of our old growth forests." And they are simply gorgeous to boot. While they might be a bit more expensive than a regular cutting board, it's the type of product that you can tell is going to last in your kitchen forever. (and they come with a pretty raffia grass tie around them too, so they are very good for gift giving)
