What a waste of time, money, and food! July 23, 2010 T. Stewart (North End of the Valley, CA) I've used a Food Saver for many years. My dear Husband thought that since our older model was about 6 years old, he'd buy me the FoodSaver V3835 for a gift. We struggled to make it work, really. We are both over-educated technical people, and this thing would not work. We kept getting a "tray full" error, and the machine would stop working. Often, the bag was half sealed Finally, we discovered that the sensors in the tray were bent. Of course, there is no replacement for that, and we could not return the product because we'd had it for 90 days. It looked nice on my counter, but it wasn't worth the effort or money. I'm pulling out my old one again.
Works for me! July 21, 2010 lizellis (Virginia) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
With the exception of a small hand-held vacuum sealer, I've had no experience with any food sealers in several years. My prior full-size system was from a competitor and although it had its uses, it was somewhat rudimentary and lacked even the ability to create a true vacuum seal. Food stored in the freezer even for relatively brief periods was prone to develop ice crystals and/or freezer burn. In short, it was only slightly more protection than a zip-lock bag and much more trouble to use.
Maybe my expectations were a bit lower from the start, but I'm quite impressed with the Food Saver. Chicken that I froze a few weeks ago looks and tastes as fresh as the day I bought it, with no trace of deterioration. And my fresh basil and dill have been similarly protected from the depredations of long-term storage. I look forward to using the marinade mode. Having the ability to marinate tougher cuts of meat in minutes rather than hours is very appealing to a procrastinator like me.
The Food Saver is spectacularly easy to use--it really IS automatic--and has done a creditable job of keeping foods fresher and more appetizing until they reach the table. That functionality coupled with its good looks, make the Food Saver a great choice for the kitchen.
Frustrating ripoff. Forces you to waste bags July 18, 2010 Harriet Vane (New York, NY United States) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have owned FoodSavers before, so I thought this model would be a good replacement when my old one died. Wrong. The unit is fully automated as advertised, but I was shocked that there is no manual option--in other words, the user has NO CONTROL over the unit. For an experienced user, that is really frustrating.
But my biggest beef is the way FoodSaver has designed the unit to force customers to waste bag material. The sealer bar is 2"-3" away from the bag insertion slot, which forces you to leave that much margin on EACH END of the bag or it won't vacuum. With my old FoodSaver, a margin of 1/2" was perfectly adequate. I feel angry that FoodSaver is deliberately ripping me and other customers off.
No parts, no service July 17, 2010 Rick Beware of the Foodsaver / Tilia brand. The units work great until something breaks and then there will bo NO parts or service. Tilia's customer service is zero. First of all, there is none, second, the reps are indifferent and the only suggestion you will get is buy another unit. Foam seals seem to be the only part readily available. Try to find a replacement bag cutter or teflon cover for the sealing strip. When you inquire about why your product can't be serviced, the response will be a patronizing stream of nonsense about "liabilities" and "proprietary". Planned obsolecense and buyer's remorse at its worst.
ok power.. questionable lifespan July 15, 2010 Jon (Maryland) i always wanted a food saver..
this seems to be great. it sucks well, but i dont know - it has a cheap feel to me of it and makes a weird kinda almost pop sound when using it.
3 weeks strong and its fine but hopefully ill get many many good years out of it.
usually, im pretty good at guessiong an items lifespan.
i hope im wrong on this one.
oh yea and perfect size for counter top!
