 Everyone's getting jerky for Christmas! November 15, 2008
I love this jerky gun! It nicely holds a pound of ground beef which makes it very convenient to purchase those 1 lb. tubes of lean ground beef at the store. I used to make jerky using the 2 narrow strips but you have to pinch off the ends. I found that I can use the wide nozzle and I will squeeze out one long beef strip spiraled around on my dehydrator tray and when their done, I just cut the dried meat into squares with my kitchen scissors. I purchased this along with a Nesco American Harvest FD-75PR 700 watt food processor and I have been extremely happy with both.
I have seen jerky guns sold locally at my WM but they were not this big and they sold out very quickly. I couldn't imagine making jerky using anything smaller than this one. The spices are VERY flavorful as well and the turkey jerky is just as tasty as the beef. This will help me save money on gifts this year as many of my family, friends and coworkers will be getting homemade beef and turkey jerky strips from me this year. It will save me time, money, it's easy to make and it's delicious. I'm already designing my label to put on the Ziploc baggies for that extra touch.
Better than described August 20, 2008
First, a correction to the description above: This kit came with 8 packets of jerky cure and 8 seasoning packets, 2 each of teriyaki, cracked pepper and garlic, hot&spicy, and original beef jerky flavor. Also, no doubt we'll get better at tight-packing jerky strips, but we could only fit 2 lbs of ground beef into our 4 tray dehydrator on our first try.
This was *way* easier and quicker prep than the sliced-marinated beef jerky method, and the gun is easy to use. When these packets of cure run out, I hope to buy "All Purpose Cure" & do my own seasonings.
 Good, but not perfect July 11, 2008
The gun itself is nicely constructed. Being able to fit about 1 lb of ground beef is always a good thing. The seasoning pack that comes with this tastes great!!! The first problem with this gun is the trigger/pushing mechanism. The teeth are far apart so if you do not completely squeeze, do not get to the next teeth or go between teeth before the the trigger is at it's ends, your next jerky will be short. I've gotten past that by listening to the gun's click. Two clicks and release. they've managed to make caulk guns smooth, why not jerky guns? at the end of the batch, there is meat left in the nozzle. There is a lot of space in the nozzle that equates to two or three long pieces of jerky.

I really don't have anything to add but agree this is a must for making jerky! I'm a total newb at dehydrating but had the dehydrator fired up in a few minutes using this jerky gun and the included spice/cure packs! The jerky came out better than a lot of store-bought jerky and was less expensive! It's also very easy to clean up once you're done.

I WAS COMPLETELY SATISFIED EXCEPT THAT IT CAN BE DIFFICULT TO UNSCREW AFTER USE. SOME RIBS ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE BARREL WOULD HELP TO GRIP.
