Not good September 10, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
Mine stopped working in just over a year. I'm not so sad, though -- it never made good rice. It was always burned at the bottom.
On the plus side, it was easy to clean. . .
Bad August 10, 2008 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
The coating on the non stick pot flakes off, the thing boils over, the rice is mediocre, it's "ok" but I'm going to do waaaaaay better next time.
So far so good. August 4, 2008 I've had probably six rice cookers to date, I'm incapable of making rice the "real way", so for me the rice cookers and microwave rice are a necessity.
So far this one is the nicest I've had, the design is nice, the lid design helps keep the rice warmed without it turning into a burnt mess. I can cook bigger quantities and the rice comes out cooked perfectly. I cant speak for the longevity of it but I've used it twice now and it seems to work great and makes delicious rice.
I might actually be sad when this one goes to the rice cooker graveyard.
The Gift That Never Gave Once June 21, 2008 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
This was a wedding present...sadly not the worst gift we got, but top ten easily.
First time we tried the rice cooker we had both just came home from work and thought we would enjoy a quick meal of chicken and rice. Sadly the rice cooker didnt have the same idea. One hour later and the cooker had only warmed the rice a little past room temp. We left the rice cooker plugged in, and started pasta because our faith in the rice cooker was waining. Not suprisingly we finished our pasta dinner and the rice cooker still hadnt woken up from his luke warm nap.
We werent quite ready to count our fancy rice cooker out yet. The next night I started some rice, and grabbed couscous just in case. It is a good thing the couscous doesnt take much time to make...as I write this the rice is still soaking in warm water because thats all the cooker can muster.
Im sure we have a defective unit, and I wish we had the problems everyone else was having, the cooker being too hot, but it's clear lthe unit is just cheaply made.
Wont be buying another one of these.
Oster Ricecooker service(Target) May 26, 2008 Oster Stainless Steel Rice CookerPurshased at Target store for listed price. Worked for about a week. Satisfactory as a rice cooker and also a steamer for Chinese dim sum. Switch failed after a week. Instructions included with item(not Target instructions) were to send to a contract service provider in NJ/NY. Chose the NJ location. Cost to ship UPS about $10.00.Called service contractor several times and visited the Target store before receiving item. Tried to recover shipping cost from Target and learned that Target had no official service dept for small appliances, but could have returned the item for refund w/n 3 months of purchase.Target personnel were helpful and accepted the returned item for refund as well as offering 3 $3.00 coupons for shipping. All in all, this was a learning experience in shopping at Target as well as the unsatisfactory service from Oster. Will purchase from Target again but will avoid Oster products unless covered by an in-store service agreement.
