This strainer has a fine grid mesh for draining the excess liquid from just about any food, including fruits, vegetables, and pasta. Its wide stainless-steel brim and loop make it easy for the strainer to rest on almost any bowl or pot, and its double-rod construction makes the strainer extra-sturdy. The large, comfortable handle is made of brushed stainless steel with rubber fins for comfort and will remain cool to the touch. It's also nonslip under wet or dry conditions. A lot of our kitchen accessories are made by OXO. We like the grips more than anything else. We only regret not having purchased the complete set of strainers instead of buying one by itself. Otherwise it works well.
not so bad July 26, 2008
I own almost all of the OXO steel gadgets. But this one has kind of scary feeling when lifted by it's handle with something heavy, like it is going to brake on it's weld.
 Be carefull I broke two allready September 21, 2002

This product is junk. I like most oxo products but this one is poorly designed. The hadle is spot welded and can not hold any weight. My second one broke after shaking the remains of a stock out. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT!!!!

Strainers are kitchen utensils that one needs at inopportune times. At the last minute, when I am hurrying to get all my dishes finished at the same time, I might put forget to add hot liquid to flour or cornstarch, for thickening, and instead add the dry ingredient directly to the gravy or sauce. Then I end up with a lumpy mess unless I have a strainer (or cheesecloth) on hand. This OXO strainer is 8 inches across, so it is large enough to strain a pan of gravy without overflowing. The mesh is a fine gauge, so the gravy will end up smooth.
