Amazon.com Review A waffle baker, grill, and griddle, this three-in-one appliance comes in handy during breakfast, lunch, dinner, and after school. Key to the unit's versatility are two 8-inch-square cooking plates--one set into the product's bottom and the other into the hinged top. On one side the plates form grids for making four waffles at once. Flipped over to show their flat sides they're capable of top and bottom grilling a sandwich or steak. To create griddle space, the top opens up flat, forming two 8-inch-square cooking surfaces for all foods that love a griddle--such as pancakes, hash browns, and eggs. Channels send grease to spouts in the griddles' corners, where it drains away. Nonstick to release food easily and wipe clean, the cooking plates also can be removed for scrubbing. A heat control offers high, low, and medium temperatures. With its chrome housing and stay-cool black synthetic handles, this 900-watt appliance looks great on the counter. Afterward, the cord wraps around the hinge, plus you can stand the unit upright for compact storage. It measures 11-1/4 inches wide, 5 inches high, and 11-3/4 inches deep and carries a one-year warranty against defects. --Fred Brack

A pale, weak, sticky shadow of its former self October 11, 2008 My mother had a waffle maker like this one, passed down from her mother. Shortly after I became an adult, the heating element of hers finally died and I was left waffle-less for several years. Then I found this. I was happy.
I don't know how, but the quality has changed dramatically over the years, despite looking essentially the same. My mother's/grandmother's waffles NEVER stuck to the plates--even a few times when they were left in until completely charred, they peeled right out without any trouble. THIS product, however, has the ability to permanently glue any substance into its tiny crevices, regardless of how well cooked. Even better is the fact that BOTH plates have equal sticking power, making it such that every time you open the iron expecting a waffle, you instead get a view of the inside of what should have been your waffle.
Others have mentioned that no amount of oil will prevent sticking--I'd like to qualify that: if you use 2-8 tbsp of crisco on each plate prior to making 1-2 sets of waffles, you will _probably_ be able to peel at least the first one off.
Very pleased with the purchase October 8, 2008 Just what I had been looking for and could not find in a retail store.Had a waffle baker and grill like this years ago and could not find a replacement locally. Will check Amazon first from now on.
Good, but not the best... October 5, 2008 I read a lot of reviews on waffle makers before I purchased this one. The waffle maker is pretty much as described, but the one thing I would have liked to have known was the fact that the "waffle wells" were not that deep. I like waffles that have DEEP "holes" so that I can get more syrup on each waffle, plus it makes the waffle itself crunchier. This waffle maker also makes a smaller waffle than what I'm used to. Otherwise it is a great product! The waffle does indeed come out much easier than some waffle makers -- I think that is because the waffle "holes" are not so deep. Pops right out! :-) I like the on/off button and the light. It's a really pretty maker, too. Easy to clean as well, since you can take the grill/waffle plates out.
Not Good - October 4, 2008 I ordered this after my waffle iron's heating element gave up the ghost. When it arrived I was more than disappointed. The quality of the waffle maker was poor. The hinges seemed as if they would fall off with a good shake. The inside of the the waffle iron was very shallow and the size of the "4" waffles it would supposedly make would have been smaller than slices of diet bread. I returned it unused.
versital, quick, easy September 30, 2008 I have now used this iron about 6 times. We have cooked gluten free (and wheat batter) items in it easily, no sticking. Grilling and waffles come out evenly cooked. Cleaning is easy. Outside gets hot, so use the handles. Only improvement I can think of is if the indicator light was brighter, or it would "beep" when a waffle is done.
My kids get so excited, and want use the grill or make a waffle out of everything... We have not cooked much meat on it, but ham and sausage cooked up fine. We purchased it on sale, so we could not be happier with this product!
