Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
The oval shape of this steel allows for greater contact area between the diamond sharpening area and the blade. Comfortable to hold, whether you're a rightie or a leftie, the secure grip is non-slip.

Amazon.com Review
Knife steels often are touted as sharpening tools. Few actually sharpen but do perform the vital task of realigning, or "resetting," a knife's edge, which bends this way and that when contacting a cutting surface or other hard object. Because this tool's surface contains diamond dust, it's hard enough to somewhat sharpen a blade. Somewhat is key. This won't replace a professional sharpening job, which proceeds from coarse grinding to ever-finer grinding at tightly controlled angles. This steel performs only the final grinding, during which an edge is polished. Thus, properly used it can lengthen intervals between sharpenings better than a steel without diamond dust. The rule of thumb being that a steel should be at least as long as the knife blade being drawn across it, this steel's length is fine for most household knives. Its oval shape exposes more surface to a knife's blade. --Fred Brack

5 out of 5 stars Eventually wears out.   August 30, 2008
Works great--better than anything else--but plan on buying a new one in a few years. The surface wears out and clogs up--happens with steel sharpeners too. I am on my third of these diamond sharpeners. Worth the money if you cannot stand dull knives--but it will be a recurring expense.

I took a...dull knife and in 1-2 min had it slicing paper with this sharpener. On my good knives 30 seconds to put on a really nice edge. I'm very pleased so far, and expect that this will be less wearing on my knives than using stones. I'll be using this regularly to put on a quick edge while cooking. Highly recommended.

5 out of 5 stars If you have good knives you need a good steel   December 5, 2000

If your good knives are getting dull this steel is the way to go. A few swipes every time you use the knife will bring the edge back. We have a set of chicago cutlery that has been rejuvinated with this steel.
