 A Christmas gift ACED!!! January 6, 2009
My daughter requested a "red can opener" for Christmas this past year. Since Amazon buyers are always so very consistent to honestly review products purchased, Amazon's website was my first stop. I looked over all they featured and the West Bend 77204 was my pick due to the high ratings prior buyers gave it in regards to price, style, and performance. Well, I'm happy to report I "did good". This is a direct quote from my daughter..."I LOVE it and it is a really quality can opener."

My wife was having problems using the hand operated mechanical can opener, so I thought I would try this unit after reading several reviews. I am not disappointed, it operates flawlessly, looks good, and appears to be well constructed.

Performs well and quiet too. The housing is plastic and the base that
looks chrome is plastic also (that's why only 4 stars) but still solid.
the cutter assembly is all metal parts. After piercing the can, you just let go, no need to hold the can or the lever, opens the can then stops when the lid is completly cut off. I tried this with a 6oz can of tomato
paste and a 36oz can of whole tomatos with no problem, although I imagine heavier cans might need to be held to keep opener from tipping.
Made in China. West Bend only carries 1 part - the entire cutting assembly for 24.99, $5 less than the opener itself
comes in 5 colors black, blue, red, white, chrome. Plastic never looked so good.
My favorite kitchen counter item December 19, 2008
I love this can opener. It looks great-people always comment on how neat it looks. After one year, it's runny ultra-smoothly, and is easy to keep clean. I had electric can openers growing up, and can't live without one, so now that I'm in my own house I had to have one. I'm so glad I picked this one--it is by far the best in function and appearance. I'm probably going to give one as a gift, too!
great can opener December 17, 2008
Finally a can opener that does what it is supposed to do. The last 4 can openers I bought did not operate properly. The last one a Black and Decker was a joke. I love this can opener, it opens cans the first time, every time. Great!! I would give it a 4.5 and would recommend the 7703 to anyone who is tired of constantly fooling with the can to get it to cut or lock on the opener.
