Hats off to the designers of appliances that perform multiple functions! After all, what kitchen couldn't benefit from more efficient use of limited space? The Krups FDH212 10-cup automatic rice cooker is also a slow cooker and a food steamer; select among those three modes and then, if necessary, set the time using the touch buttons on the control panel. The time counter shows remaining cooking time on a two-digit display. After cooking in any mode, the Krups rice cooker will shift to a keep-warm mode; the switch-over is noted by an orange indicator light on the control panel. In its most basic function, this rice cooker yields up to 20 cups of cooked rice. But it's also useful for all the typical slow-cooker dishes; soups, stews, chili, etc. An enclosed booklet includes recipes that range from the home-style Yankee Pot Roast to the fancier Casablanca lamb and apricot stew, as well as including simple cooking instructions for rice. This is a lovely appliance, too--modern curves in gleaming stainless steel with high-gloss black lid and accents. The lacquer-black lid has a large, curved, stay-cool handle and a click-close lock with a gray release button. On the underside of the lid, a removable steam shield helps keep the scalding steam away from the lid and directs moisture back into the food. The deep nonstick cooking bowl is removable for easy cleaning; a sturdy black plastic steaming rack rests inside the bowl to suspend food above the water. One small but very considerate feature is a condensation collector; a channel running under the edge of the closed lid conducts condensation droplets to a small catch pocket on the side. A small plastic measuring cup and black plastic rice paddle (with attachable spoon rest) come with the cooker. To preserve the nonstick coating of the cooking bowl, use wooden, plastic, or rubber utensils. Vinegar--used in the cooking of short-grain sushi rice--may corrode the nonstick surface over time. To clean the body of the rice cooker, wipe with a damp cloth and then wipe dry; the appliance is not immersible. The removable steam shield, steam basket, and nonstick cooking bowl can be washed by hand or in the dishwasher. To re-season the bowl after every few rounds in the dishwasher, wipe the inner surface of the bowl with a little cooking oil.  Great Rice Cooker January 18, 2008
I bought this as a Christmas present for my son who lives with me and wants to cook Thai food. It cooks rice perfectly. The only suggestion I have is if you slow cook it and it's done you shouldn't leave it too long in the pot or it will turn brown.

My husband ordered this as a Christmas gift apon my request. I love it. I have used it several times to cook whole grain brown rice. I have used the crock-pot feature to cook a large roast and veggies. I have used the steam option almost daily to steam veggies for lunch or reheat left overs instead of using a microwave. Used to reheat left overs allows them to stay fresh and not get dried out or over heated in spots. I have used the rice feature to cook whole grain oatmeal for breakfast. I am still learning to cook with it, but so far no complaints. The only thing I can complain about is my fault, I will set the machine to it's function, then forget to push the start button because my old machine didnt have a start button. Maybe a warning beep to let you know you still need to push the start button to actually turn the thing on would be a good feature for us dummies with three kids, LOL. I do agree with some of the other reviews that the handle and button feels a little on the cheap side and I do wish it were a bit stouter, therefore I give the 4 stars. But the actual function in all modes works great and it is super easy to clean up.

Not only does it do a fantastic job on rice, but it is a great slow cooker too. It also looks fabulous on the counter with its stainless finish.

We got this rice cooker as a gift and didn't really want it at the time...until we tried it. It makes the best rice and steams veggies at the same time, we use it almost daily. We liked it so much that I bought the same one as a wedding gift.

This one is the one for me! I have had many but the rice never came out the way it should no matter what I tried. This one is fast and the rice is not mushy or crunchy. My steamed veggies come out great and I love to be able to program it so that my dinner is ready when I get home from work. We eat lots of rice and I can keep my rice in on warm all day, beyond 12 hours, and it is still great with no burning or drying out. It looks nice sitting on my counter.
My only complaint is the cord. It is not retractable and is a pain to wind up since it winds underneath the cooker.
