Product Description The Good Grips Can Opener is a great addition to any kitchen drawer. Its sharp, stainless steel cutting blade makes opening any can easy and quick. Big cushioned handles give you extra strength to pierce a can, and the oversized knob turns easily. Also features a built-in bottle cap opener.
Amazon.com Review With its large, easy-to-operate turning-mechanism, this can opener does its job with minimal effort on your part. The nonslip, oversize handles fit the hand comfortably, absorbing the tension of keeping the can opener in place while the stainless-steel teeth bite into the lid with the ease of a great white shark. The built-in bottle opener, sturdy construction, and ease of use make the Good Grips can opener one of the best on the market. The Good Grips line features durable, flexible handles on every product. Ergonomically designed to fit the palm comfortably, the pressure-absorbing processed-rubber handles reduce stress on the hands while providing an outstanding grip. Made from the same material dishwasher gaskets are constructed of, the handles are slip-proof, wet or dry, and dishwasher-safe. Good Grips products are moderately priced and have won the Tylenol/Arthritis Foundation Design Award. --Laurie Notaro

Rusts December 28, 2008 This product had noticeable rust after the first few weeks. After a few months, it was so rusty it was hard to open and close. The other day it literally broke in two from the rust. We have not had it for that long. This product is total garbage, unlike most Good Grips products (esp. the super potato peeler).
Oxo Good Grips Can Opener Fails to Please December 22, 2008 This is a hard-to-clean kitchen tool. Not all the metal parts are stainless so they get pitted and retain food particles. Also, the handles are not sealed onto the body of the can opener, so dishwater accumulates in them, and therefore so do rotting food particles, mold... you get the point. It is possible to pull off the handles and wash all the surfaces, but what a pain! And then, the handles wear and loosen so they start to slide when opening cans. After three months, I replaced the Oxo Good Grips Can Opener with a Zyliss Lock-n-Lift Can Opener which, after six months, still works very well.
Oxo Good Grips Can Opener has certain advantages over P38 December 6, 2008 I have used a P38 for over 40 years; I find it to be light weight and ready to use at a moment's notice.
However the Oxo good grips will hold the can in place while opening the lid. Not being on the chain, you can also open it with your arms extended; this comes in handy when you are opening cat food. This also does not require you to be so dexterous. Your finger does not become calloused. And it does not get lost in the dishwasher.
Just be sure while the cat is sniffing the can, that you don't grind his whiskers.

Excellent item September 30, 2008 Works great. Nothing else to say. Over two years of use and still as good as the first day I used it.
My Katrina can opener September 22, 2008 10 out of 16 found this review helpful
When you live in Louisiana, after Katrina, you get prepared. Even in the northern part where so many people sought temporary shelter, you follow the Boy Scout motto. Because of the frequent thunderstorms that are part of hurricane periphery, one must take into account that electricity will go out. This is true of the entire year, not just hurricane season.
I keep an assortment of emergency equipment and supplies to make myself independent. Can opener, tuna in both cans and pouches, other food items, a look-like kerosene lamp that runs on Big D batteries and throws out great light, my clip-on reading light, fresh batteries and bulbs, candles and matches, drinking water in reserve, other drinks of choice, and so on.
This Oxo Good Grips Can Opener allows you to do just that: get a good grip to turn the machine and open that can! Great job. Of course, with sardines, you just peel back the top, drain, dump, and eat. Add crackers, pickles, onion, cheese, and that white wine that is quite drinkable at room temp. Pluck some grapes from the fridge and time to eat, thanks to Oxo Can Opener!
