4 out of 5 stars Good slow cooker recipes   December 16, 2008
I have enjoyed many of the recipes in this book. It has more lamb recipes than you'd usually find, which is wonderful for people who love lamb stews, etc.

I do find myself altering each recipe to my own individual tastes and ideas, so, after using the first couple of recipes, I'm not so sure I NEED the book any more --- slow cooking is a rather broad skill, and precise measurements are usually not needed.

So if you are a decent cook, this book may not be for you. If you are a beginner cook or have never worked with a slow cooker before, an investment in this book might be worth it.

Experienced slow cooker cooks could browse this book on the shelf, get the general idea, and not spend the money.

4 out of 5 stars Useful for cooking with fresh ingredients in the small slow cooker   April 23, 2008

This was an extremely helpful book for a single person who likes to cook, and who just bought a small (1.5 quart) slow cooker. Some of the recipes I haven't tried yet, but I'm looking forward to the cheese fondue! The beef burgandy came out great, as did the lentil and butternut squash stew. The recipes use mostly fresh stuff, and don't rely on weird canned products (no adding a can of cream of something soup). It is a British book, so some of the expectations of which ingredients are common aren't quite accurate for the US (they give special instructions on where to find sweet potatos, but have about six recipes for lamb dishes, for example). There is a good selection of meat and vegetarian recipes.

2 out of 5 stars Just So So   February 21, 2008

I just received this book and I have to say I expected quite a lot more from this book! It has weird stuff in it; like Duck. Who is going to buy and make duck for 1 person? Very Disappointed. Leeks, lentils, bulghar....yuk. Anyway, I thought some basics would be included.........very little. There are quite a few desserts though. I will give the book a try and see how those recipes I can use (without buying specialty items)work.
