excellent rice cooker January 4, 2009 perfect rice cooker if you want to make brown rice. Typical rice cooker usually burned the brown rice because it does not have the setting for it. With Zojirushi, the rice come out perfectly cook and taste excellent. If you want to make perfect rice you should consider this one.
Worth Every Penny! January 3, 2009 I have had this rice cooker for six months now and it's been fabulous! We use it every day for at least one pot of rice -- it's wonderful to have perfect rice just waiting for me! This is my first rice cooker so I can't compare it to others, but I feel like I am definitely getting my money's worth.
I have cooked long grain, medium grain, and brown rice and each time it has come out perfect. The inner pot is marked with water levels for different amounts and types of rice, making it really simple to figure out how much water to add for the amount of rice to be cooked. There are different settings for different types of rice as well; the system is really easy to figure out. The warmer function is perfect for my busy family -- I can make a full pot of rice when I get up and the rice will be perfect all day. Even after 12 hours the rice is great!
I really hate cleaning but this rice cooker cleans up in a snap! The pot is nonstick and just takes a bit of soap and water and a sponge to clean completely; the inner lid snaps out and is easily cleaned as well. It cleans up so easy even my kids will clean up after using it!
All in all, I am very glad I decided to spend the extra money to get this rice cooker... it's everything I hoped it would be!
Finally a small rice cooker that really works December 30, 2008 Many, many years ago (20 years ago!) my brother sent my family a Zojirushi rice cooker as a gift. It makes 12 cups but I was serving 5 people and when you add guests you need a lot of rice. It works BEAUTIFULLY if I want a LOT of rice. Now my family is down to 2 and we don't eat more than a cup of rice in a meal so I tried to find a small rice cooker. I've bought two, small, inexpensive rice cookers from a local store only to be horribly disappointed. The rice always scorches and is never cooked right. I went back to cooking rice on the stove. For Christmas, I splurged and bought the Zojirushi 5.5 cup rice cooker. I considered the smaller 3 cup version but my kids do come to visit and the 5.5 has the option to make sponge cakes which sounded interesting.
The first batch of rice was plain white rice. I read the instructions, measured the rice in the included cup, poured it in to the cooker and added enough filtered water to the rice for the water level to touch the one cup line marked on the cooking bowl. I closed the lid, made sure white rice was selected and pressed the "cooking" button. After a while it played a happy tune to let me know the rice was done. I fluffed the rice and set the cooker on extended warm. (You have two settings for keeping rice warm - regular and extended.) It was many hours later that we actually ate the rice and it was still perfect. Last night we made a brown rice pilaf and used the brown rice setting. Again, the rice came out perfect. I used filtered water again. It is recommended in the instructions that you don't use tap water, especially if you have very hard water like I do. The tap water can cause the steam vents to clog up.
Clean up is a breeze. You pluck the inner lid from the lid and wash it with a little warm soapy water, dry it and put it back. The cooking pot/bowl is nonstick and a little soapy water and a rinse and it's clean too. Finally, just wipe down the other surfaces and your done. I wish everything was that easy to clean.
excellent December 16, 2008 this product exceeds our expectations. it is easy to clean, cooks very well, keeps food warm nicely, and plays a happy tune at the beginning and end of the cooking process.
Great rice cooker! December 14, 2008 We bought this rice cooker after our old Krups one started to burn the rice, and it hasn't disappointed us yet. We have made brown rice, sushi rice, and white rice, and it is perfect every time. The timer function is very convenient and the quick cook cycle is awesome.
