Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
This may seem like a bizarre cooking method initially, but it results in perfect, thin, delicate crepes. Simply invert the non-stick hot plate into the batter (dipping plate included), then turn it right sight up and set it on the table. In a few moments you have enviable crepes which peel easily off the hot plate.

Amazon.com Review
Quicker and easier to use than a skillet, this 900-watt electric appliance simplifies the cooking of crepes and blintzes, making it foolproof. The 7-1/2-inch-diameter cooking surface is coated with nonstick material and is slightly convex. Dipping it into crepe batter coats it uniformly. Inverting the appliance and setting it on a counter (or dining table, for festive occasions) allows the crepe to cook, while the rubber feet protect the counter. The user then simply peels off the crepe. An automatic thermostat heats the cooking surface to the proper temperature, and a light signals when it's time to cook. The crepe maker, which features a stay-cool plastic handle, is accompanied by a plastic dishwasher-safe dipping plate to hold the batter. The crepe maker's instruction booklet contains recipes for various crepes and for blintzes. --Fred Brack

3 out of 5 stars No heat adjustment   January 6, 2009
I was really excited to use this crepe maker after reading many good reviews, but I am disappointed for 2 reasons:

1. There is no way to adjust the heat. Different recipes require different cooking temps and this machine only has one setting ("on"). Because I am gluten intolerant, I make these super yummy gluten free crepes that come out perfectly in a pan, but literally simmer and burn on this crepe maker. They come off with hundreds of tiny holes, too - the result of too high heat.

2. The cord is ridiculously short. I couldn't even plug it in to the wall that is right next to my table without an extension cord.

If you could adjust the temp, I would say this machine is great. It may work well with regular wheat flour recipes, but I have now found nicer machines with temperature controls.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent and enduring   December 28, 2008
I have had this crepe maker for 8 years now and couldn't be more thrilled with the results. I originally asked for it as a Christmas present in high school. We would frequently have "crepe parties" in my French language class and after seeing the teacher use this model I knew I had to have one.
I actually have had quite the opposite experience of many of the reviewers. I have found it easy to clean and that each crepe can be made in minutes. The result is something light and perfect and practically fool proof. With regular stove top pans you have to take great care to spread the batter thin so you get something that matches a typical crepe's thickness. However, with this appliance since you are dipping it into a plate of batter you automatically get something that is thin and perfectly textured. I typically cook it on the first side after dipping for 30 seconds to a minute and then flip it over to cook the other side.
I have also found it works well with all manners of batter from a short-cut batter I make using Bisquick to blue cornmeal batter to a sweet chocolate batter from Techniques of Healthy Cooking, Professional Edition. It seems to generate just the right temperature for all of these batters.
Also there is no need to fear if the dipping container warps or gets lost. Mine has been missing for years and I use a wide pasta bowl or oversized pie plate with ease.
Overall I have been thrilled with this appliance. After 8 years of use I have no problems with the teflon chipping or melting. Although I will say that when I do make crepes it rarely gets left on for more than a half hour to an hour as I am typically making crepes for four people at most.
I highly recommend it for its ability to turn out crepes with a great texture (while crepes in France will certainly always be better these certainly rivaled them as well as those I have had in local restaurants in Boston) in a short amount of time as well as to remain durable over the years.

Gave this to my sister in law for Christmas and she said she loves it and has already used it several times.

1 out of 5 stars Not in Stock magically?   December 21, 2008

I placed my order for this item back on Dec. 15th, giving me more than enough time to take advantage of the free shipping choice and get this, as my parents requested one for Christmas. I received an email today explaining my order was now cancelled, and if I'd like to re-order I would have to choose next day shipping to get it in time! I called Amazon support (who was extremely helpful and polite about it) who explained DealYard cancelled because they're out of stock. Tried calling DealYard regarding this, since the site clearly states you can order this still and get it in time (with a difference of over 20$ now to get it in time) and they aren't even open over the weekend to discuss the matter. So much for buying this item. I will never use DealYard again either.

3 out of 5 stars Makes great crepes, but ...   December 10, 2008

This crepe maker really does make great crepes, but I wish someone would actually cook with these gadgets before they sell them. The cord coming out of the end of the handle (the picture doesn't show this) is just ridiculous. If your receptacle is in the wall and you're holding the crepe maker by the handle, the cord just gets tangled, in the way and sometimes dunked in the batter. But the worst thing was that after less than 20 uses, the teflon is starting to wear off. Teflon is definitely NOT a good thing to eat, so I am going to retire this crepe maker. I only wish I could find one that didn't have a non-stick coating.
