1 out of 5 stars SPEND YOUR MONEY SOMEWHERE ELSE !   December 11, 2008
I had this for about one year. after about a week, on/off switch broke and turned off before the water was boiled. I was ok with this since it happened 50/50 and i did not have time to return this item. today this junk flooded my counter leaving a stain since all water leaked and stayed on the counter all day. read reviews of krups products (like coffee makers etc.) and you will understand that everything they make is NOT reliable and the warranty service is xxxx

2 out of 5 stars Worked great - for a year.   November 30, 2008
At first, this was exactly what I was looking for - no more heating water on the stove and no more noisy microwave in the morning. Couldn't have been happier with it. The only issue I had was the occasional turning off after only heating the water for about 30 seconds. After turning it back on, it would then work normally. However, after a year of use, it quit working completely. I disassembled the base and found the electrical contacts between the base and the teapot had deteriorated to the point where it would only work if I bent the contacts. That only worked for a few times and it was back to being unusable. It's now in the trash and I'm looking for a better product. It may be a Krups, but it's still made in China. The German quality just isn't there. I cannot recommend this product.

1 out of 5 stars Dead in 35 days   November 23, 2008
Extremely great kettle for people who want to waste money.
While looking good and pretty, it relieved us from feel of guilt for wanting to return it back to store. Boiled water smelled plastic, boiling sound was like from tractor trailer. Fortunately it stopped working on day 35. Bed Bath and Beyond took it back...
Previous Krups model that we had didn't have these issues and worked for 7 years. Materials, design and parts used in this kettle are very bad..

5 out of 5 stars Best kettle - truly useful   November 4, 2008
I did the research to find the best electric kettle, and this is it. I even tested other kettles, and none were as fast and powerful as this one. Great product.

This is my second Krups electric kettle. I first used an electric kettle on a visit to the UK, where every hotel room (and of course every home kitchen) has one. They are so convenient and fast, I don't know why more Americans don't use them.

The first Krups served me well for over six years. One day it didn't turn on, and I didn't realize that it wasn't the kettle, it was the GFI outlet in my kitchen that was tripped. By the time I figured it out, I'd bought this model and didn't want to send it back. I gave my old one to a neighbor and it's still working perfectly for her now, three years later. So that's NINE YEARS of use from the first one and I expect the second one to last just as long.

This is useful for so much more than coffee or tea. I use it to boil water for pasta, for sterilizing things, for soaking dried fruit and tomatoes for recipes, for instant soup or noodles, to degrease cast iron pans, to kill weeds I can't pull, and even to melt the ice on the surface of my pond in winter. There is no end to the ways you can use boiling water!

And for coffee and tea there really is nothing better. I can stumble bleary-eyed into the kitchen in the morning, fill the pot, hit the switch, and have boiling water ready by the time I've gotten out the cup and teabag or measured the coffee for the French press. The only thing faster would be hot running tea or coffee from a faucet. It's not just fast, it saves energy and water and it will never boil dry.

1 out of 5 stars Make sure you save your receipt!   November 4, 2008
This is a very nice looking electric kettle, and it worked fine, but broke in less than 6 months. We returned it for a new one, however the second one lasted less than 3 months! We've gone back to an old-school kettle...
