Worked great - until it broke! January 3, 2009 My Rabbit worked like a charm for about a case of wine. Then it started giving me problems on the retracting stroke. The corkscrew just spun out instead of pulling the cork. After a few additional tries it would work sporadically. After a few more bottles the handle broke, rendering the whole thing useless. After reading all the problems customers are having with this company's "customer service" I have decided to throw this thing in the garbage where it belongs and go back to my old lever style screw-and-pull cork remover - 10 years and it still works fine!
Makes opening wine simple December 28, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
After years of fighting with trying different wine openers to cleanly open a bottle we often ended up with a broken cork and more frustration. This wine opener makes it almost idiot prof to open a bottle fast and effectively. It works smoothly and with minimal effort. A great wine opener.
matte black coating turns sticky after about 4 years December 15, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The device works well mechanically. You should know that there is a coating on it that gives it a nice matte black finish & rubbery texture that feels good to hold for about 3 years. Then at about four to five years of age it turns sticky and will leave a black gunk on your hands; not cool. I think a $50 corkscrew should last longer than four years; so I spent about an hour with adhesive remover & alcohol and was able to remove the coating. The hard plastic that is under the coating is now blotchy, but at least my hands stay clean. It still works well mechanically, but it is no longer the pretty party tool. Buy a Screwpull or an all-metal corkscrew.
Defective product, poor warrantee satisfaction July 15, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I'd give zero stars if it was an option. Don't waste your time on this company.
My first Rabbit had a plastic handle. When it broke after several years of use, I replaced it with a metal handle Rabbit because it had 10-year warrantee. (I think the first one had a 2-year warrantee.)
The new Rabbit malfunctioned. A mission-critical piece of rubber tore, making the Rabbit useless. I sent the Rabbit to Metrokane per the package instructions. (I paid the postage and also had to enclose a check to cover *their* mailing costs.)
A week or so later, my Rabbit was returned to me without any repairs. Their note said that they couldn't find anything wrong with the thing. I phoned Metrokane to complain. They said that the rubber was not covered by the warrantee. I was told to get rubber glue to fix the thing. I checked the warrantee. Nowhere does it say that certain parts are not covered. Finally they agreed to replace it.
The replacement was defective. The Metrokane rep. copped an attitude when I complained, saying that I was probably using it incorrectly. (Remember, I'd owned a Rabbit and had used it for years, so I'm sure I knew how to use it.)
The company wouldn't send another Rabbit and I refused to spend more money to return the second defective product. I'm using a $10 knock-off now. It works every time.
Great customer service June 9, 2008 Purchased two to use at a community event with lots of wine to open. They functioned perfectly and kept the wine bar line moving. Lost a small piece from one during the clean-up. Call Metrokane and they immediately mail me a replacement part at NO charge for the part or postage. Would purchase them again but figure these will last a long time.
