Amazon.com Review
Ideal for the chemically sensitive or those with small children, the Bissell Steam Mop deep-cleans hard-surface floors using the power of pure water alone. No harsh (or expensive) cleaners means no fumes or residues to irritate lungs or muddy delicate finishes, while the use of hot steam rather than buckets of water leaves floors dry in just seconds. Heated and ready to use in 30 seconds, the remarkably quiet mechanism works something like an iron: steam is dispensed on demand, rather than continuously, by pressing the trigger while passing the mop over the floor. Hot steam easily removes hardened and sticky gunk, especially if the mop sits over the mess for a few seconds. (Leave it in place 15 seconds to actually sanitize the cleaning surface.) The machine steams for approximately 15 minutes before the tank needs to be refilled, but there's no lag once you refill it.

The Steam Mop's low-profile 360-degree swiveling head accesses hard-to-reach nooks and crannies, like under kitchen cabinets, while its compact profile stores easily in small spaces. Other thoughtful design touches include a quick-release cord wrap and easy-carry handle, as well as a built-in water filter to protect from the minerals and impurities in hard water. (An indicator lets users know when the filter need to be replaced.) Durable, reusable microfiber pads are safe on all sealed hard surfaces and clean up nicely in the washing machine, making them more environmentally friendly than disposable options. Measuring 6 by 11 by 45-1/2 inches, the Bissell Steam Mop weighs less than 7 pounds and is covered by a one-year limited warranty.--Mary Park

5 out of 5 stars Great Product   January 9, 2009
I love this product!! It is so easy to use and it cleans better than using chemicals. I was surprised at the amount of dirt it got off the floors even after I had used floor cleaners on them.

4 out of 5 stars put away the swiffer   January 9, 2009
This works so much better than a swiffer. I actually feel like my floors are getting clean.

Can be a little inconsistent to push. Sometimes not enough steam and sometimes too much.

3 out of 5 stars UMMMM - Help me out here!!!   January 9, 2009
I dont get it.... The reviews about this product are general 4-5 Stars.
I dont think I can rate it that high!

Pros:
Good Price
2 Microfiber Cloths - re-usable
Eliminates need for chemicals
Ready to go in seconds after plugging in

Cons:
It does'nt clean anything the way I thought it would.

I have been testing this in our kitchen and bathrooms to see if the steam would actually clean....nada. The kitchens and bathrooms are all ceramic tile.

I have read that you can do a quick towel test after cleaning to see if anything was left over...and I must say that the towels picked up some residue, of the dirty kind.

I dont recommend this product....although I dont want to knock steam cleaning...I think steam cleaning definitely works. Maybe this is not the best item for it.

5 out of 5 stars Best product ever!!   January 9, 2009
I love this thing! Cleans streak free, light-weight, fast!! Wow!! I can clean my floors in half the time without haveing to buy chemicals. I even clean my tiled shower floor with it. It is ready to steam in seconds. It is a must for every clean-freak!!

4 out of 5 stars Bissell Compared with Shark   January 8, 2009

Unsure, I bought the Bissell and Shark to compare. The products are relatively equal in all ways but three: wetness, ease of use, and sturdiness.

Wetness: At first I thought Shark wins for being drier. But then I looked closer. On both units, the steam actually comes out only from one small hole in the middle. Because the Bissell gets wetter, the whole mop head wets the floor, but on the Shark, only the spot on the floor right under the steam hole gets any wetness at all. I had to repeat and linger over small areas to get any coverage. So drier is not better. Then I compared side by side the wetness of the Bissell with the usual wetness of my (fairly well wrung) mop---same. I only held the trigger when pushing forward for that result. So it's not a clear win, but I prefer Bissell's wetness to no coverage.

Ease of use: Bissell wins. The Shark killed my back to push over my 2400 sq ft house of engineered hardwood. The instructions advise keeping it at a 45-degree angle to the floor. But that angle is difficult to hold---I am 5'2" and had to bend a bit to do it. In fact, those who have even mild arthritis or shoulder/back pain may struggle with this one. Bissell glided easily, and the trigger was no strain.

Sturdiness: Bissell wins. The shark is way too flimsy, and I am afraid that given how hard it is too push, I may break it.

Also consider---the Bissell has a three-pronged plug, so if your house has only two-pronged outlets, you will not be able to use it without an adapter. Shark has two prongs.

Despite the comparable price, the Shark is not in the same league as the Bissell. I am not certain that the Bissell is the best steam mop, but I am certainly returning the Shark. I want to compare the Bissell to my mother's Eureka Envirosteamer before I decide.
